So I Rank #1 in Google: Now What?

When you are first starting out in internet marketing or just launching a new website, your only concern is probably to get more traffic.  You target a keyword and then try to get as many quality links to the site as possible.    But what happens AFTER you rank #1 for your keyword?  What happens if you are not seeing as much traffic as you thought, and certainly not as much money as you thought?
It all comes down to copy.  Knowing how to write articles that persuade and sell are a mandatory part of the business, and any internet marketer that does not know how to write good copy will fail.  Sure, you can always hire someone else to do your copy for you, but anyone who is affordable is NOT going to be good at copywriting or else they would be too busy writing their own sales pages and review pages.  The good copywriters are the ones we can’t afford, charging $20,000 for one page.
So here are some tips to increase your conversions AFTER you have ranked for your keyword but are still not seeing much money.

Get the visitor’s attention

You don’t have to do this by using all CAPS or by using all red letters either.  You simply need to start your article or write your headline with a thought or question that will motivate the visitor to read on.   This is just a little tease and should encourage most of your readers to WANT to continue on your page and seeing what you have to say.  Often, this works well in the form of a question, but you can also just make a statement that will lend itself to needing a resolution.  The key is that you don’t want them to bounce, so this is the most critical part of your page.

Give them what they are asking for

This is all determined by what keyword you are targeting, and this is also why you should have a different page for each keyword you want to go after.  Really study the keyword you are targeting for a given page and try to figure out the searchers intent.  What are they REALLY looking for?  Are they still curious about a product or service?  Are they ready to buy?  Are they looking for negative reviews on a product?  Not everything can be determined by looking at the keyword, but use that as a starting point to get into the heads of your visitors.  Then, when you know what they want, give it to them.  They may be looking for a video rather than an article as well, so you will want to cater to those needs too.

Start with the benefits

If your boss were to offer you a new job by telling you all of the positive things about it like how much more money you would be making, how much vacation time you would get, and how many great benefits you would receive, you would probably be interested before he/she even told you what the job was all about.  You need to do the same thing with your copy.  Reveal all of the benefits of your product or service.  Don’t just give stats and figures, but show them in real life how this product will make their lives easier or more exciting.  Start with all of the benefits so the reader will want the product before you even reveal what it is or what it does and you will have the makings of a great copywriter.

Explain some of the frustrations of NOT having the product

You see this in TV informercials all the time and many times it’s very comical. They will show some lady trying to cook something and it ends up in a big mess.  Or some guy will be trying to move furniture and he throws out his back.  They reveal some of the frustrations people have by not having the product to try to get the buyer to sympathize with their emotions.  If they can get you to say, “Yeah that sounds like me.” then they have done their job.  You need to do the same thing with whatever you are promoting.

Show the true value of the product

Before the actual price of the item is given, you should reveal how much it’s really WORTH to them.  Reveal how many ours it will save them, how much money it will save them, how much more confident they will be etc.  By showing them how much value the product or service has it lessens the blow when you finally reveal the price.  You want them to say, “Wow, that’s a great deal if it offers me all that.”

Knowing how to rank well in Google and other search engines is only half the battle.  And it really does not matter if you rank #1 if it is not translating into more sales and more money for your business.  Use these tips to write better copy and turn more visitors into conversions.  In fact, stop building backlinks to yet another site until you have mastered these techniques on your current sites.
